the boy in the box

Ollie recently told me it was his life long dream to sleep in a box. Who am I to deny him the Hobo life he so desires?
Every month when we get Davy's medical supplies shipped to us, Ollie asks if he can have the boxes. I mean we practically live in a box ourselves, so adding more is very suffocating. So I usually say, play with them outside.
This week when we bought Davy her new big girl car seat, the box had Ollie drooling, so I let him set up camp for the night. It was pretty cute and it kept him and Harper entertained for hours. I kinda wanted to keep it.

and the Emmy goes to........

Sesame Street?!!! Every-single-time-they-were-in-a-category they stinkin won! Like I think they won like 10 awards with the same dude excepting all of them. They have won best preschool show straight since 1998. So if we were going to lose, at least it was to them, right?
I sent out a text and this picture to our family saying, can you guess who won?

I guess I kinda started with the end of our night. SO let's jump back to 4 pm when we were leaving. First things first, my dress....garage sale, $5-- cha-ching! I scored 2 cute dresses from this cute grandma, so I'm covered now for fancy events. Also a big thanks to Julia for doing my hair and makeup and letting me use your shoes.
This was me saying, I really think your gonna win tonight. I married a winner, I married a winner!!
This was only 5 minutes in to my night and I was already regretting wearing spanx. Soo not worth feeling like a stuffed sausage. Was that TMI? Oh well, don't care, Spanx suck.
Also I realize I'm not the best in high heels, as I almost just did a face plant.

Thanks to Wildbrain, we had "a car" pick us up. It really is kinda fun being carted around. Next time I want to go with all the Gabba crew, but in a stretch hummer limo, so over the top ridiculous.
The best part of this years Emmy's was having Scott's parents with us. They had me laughing the entire show. Harry has classic one liner Dad jokes and Nancy gives the best live commentary.
You can always count on Lance to have the coolest suit in the room.
Me and my lady friends.
This was Scott's favorite part of the night. We actually really are big Sesame Street fans. He especially loves Caroll Spinney, the puppeteer and voices of Oscar and Big Bird. Scott highly recommends his autobiography, The Wisdom of Big Bird (and the Dark Genius of Oscar the Grouch): Lessons from a Life in Feathers. He LOVES this book.

After the very long(and slightly boring) show, we went to the Nickelodeon after party. Now this was fun. It was on the roof top of some club and the whole Nick family was there. Oh and they had some yummy appetizers and you know how I love me some free food.
The real bummer of the night was when I dropped my IPhone and it shattered all the way to it's brains. I have had that phone for 2 years and dropped it a bazillion times and never a scratch.
SO I drowned my sorrows in a Diet coke with lime and McDons Ice cream.
Next year, your going down Sesame!!!

Davy is going to rehab

At least that's what it's called at Choc. When we check in, I say it's for rehab, and then I giggle, cuz Baby rehab sounds funny. Then we travel down to the hospital basement with all of the other baby junkies.

This has been our first full week of hardcore therapy. I'm talking 7X's a week therapy. I have to say, I'm pretty beat, so I can only imagine how Davy feels. I hope this becomes a "normal" for us, cuz it's been hard to juggle.

The main reason we are in the basement is for vital stem or e-stim. I have heard mix reviews on this. My cousin called it owiE-stim, cuz her son screamed the whole time. Then my SIL told me it wasn't so bad, but she is an adult.......so....... yeah.

Well the first session, I was pleasantly surprised. Davy cried just at the very end. So, I thought, Davy is rock star, this is nothin.

Spoke to soon Ruthy.

She cried a little more in the second session and then even more in the third. I will say, she used to cry harder in Physical therapy, so I'm not too phased by her tears. But I don't want this to be bummer for her either. So hopefully things will get better.

You can see below how they hook up these little pads to her neck and send little currents to her throat. She gets pretty ticked off when we have to take that tape off. You can see how she is not to thrilled about it either.
After e- stim we drive over to health bridge for OT and PT. Just when I thought OT was starting to get healthier foods, they pull out frosting, cheese whiz and Jello.
In a matter of seconds Davy looked like this(see below pic). She took one bite of frosting and she was hooked. She slathered it on like a bath and body lotion. Good thing she had her new larger bib on, thanks again Summer!
Then for dessert Davy had her first pixie stick. She wasn't to into it but it did help her with her mouth closure. After OT we have a half hour break so I can feed her some real food then we have PT. Which daaang, she is getting by really well. She lasts 45 minutes, which is a very long time for a little bird like her.

SO, this is our schedule, twice a week and with one more in house PT sesh on Fridays. I'm trying to see if it's better to compact a lot in one day or if we should spread it out more. We'll see, we'll see. It's all up to Miss Davy. I hope she votes for compact though.

Hey Utah!!!

This is my little brother(in law, if you want to get technical) Sam, aka "Sammy's". This guy constantly is amazing me, restaurants, parties, concerts, the boy is always doing something big. What some of you may not know is that he also has a big heart.
He called me last week to tell me about how he and Brooke are doing a show in Utah and they really wanted to give part of the proceeds to Team Davy. Which is way to kind of them. If you have not seen Ms. White in concert, I highly recommend it. You'll love her....and her clothes.
I also highly recommend you Not to post pictures of yourself eating on your blog. No one looks good while eating.....except Davy, she looked pretty cute.
Thank you Sam and Brooke!

Salvador-Ollie

I found this beautiful picture on Ollie's DSi. He pretty much has taken a picture of everyone he knows and puts a moustache, demon eyes and a waterfall of boogers on them. He does throw in the occasional Afro to mix things up.
He even has titles for them. This one was "MR. Snotsy". He explained that the moustache has made Davy a gentleman. Get it? (his exact words)
I found myself laughing and creeped out at the same time.
I wonder if Picasso's mom found similar drawings.

Team Davy Benefit

Where to begin, where to begin. First and for most...Thank you. Thank you, to all of our family and friends for all the work and love that went in to this fun night. Because it was so much fun! I kinda thought I was going to be a stress case, but my family(and a Xanax) made it so all I had to do was show up and enjoy. Really, I had so much fun. My only regret was that I didn't get to talk to everyone. You know me, I'm a talker. I'm not a quick hello type of person. So I really do apologize if I didn't get to you.
Let me take you through the evening. You were greeted at the door from some member of my family, like my Dad in the pic below. My poor family worked all night, I know some of them didn't even get to eat. Which is a bummer cuz the food was so good. You guys out did yourself again Harry and Nancy.

Scott and I made these posters. They just broke down all of Davy's medical conditions in a simpler way. I know I didn't know what the heck panhypopituitarism was before Davy.
There were so many amazing things for auction. I have a lot of talented friends that donated fun homemade items: Sarah , Melany, Merralee, Emily, my Mom, Gina, Jen, Dianne, Amelia and many more. It was hard to keep my grubby paws off their stuff. Not to mention the items friends donated from their work. Dang I could write a really long list here. But can I just say thanks and you know who you are?

This is my Bro in law Ben. He worked so hard on this event. I just wanted to give him a shout out. Yeah Benji!! I am sure he got like 6 hours of sleep that week. I think were even for that haircut now, Ben.

Finally...finally, I got to meet the lovely (love my) Merrilee. I had so much fun chattin her up.
My Choc friends, we both have beautiful clefty kids. Thanks for coming, guys.
I spy St. Elizabeth. Thanks Beth, what would we do without you. She is a get-it-done kinda gal. Everyone needs a Beth in their family.

Yeah for Gabba friends! You are looking at some very Talented people(minus me) right here.

Here is my beloved father n law, Harry, the nicest man you will ever meet.
Not to mention the BEST grilled cheese maker in America. I'm not kidding, he has perfected them.
He started the evening off with some words about our Sweet Davy.
Then we played a slide show of Davy's life. I got kinda choked up, which is dumb cuz I made the slide show. But just seeing all the pictures of her in the Hospital brought back some memories.
We brought Davy in for a lion king moment. We held her up for all to see and then whisked her right on out of there. I'm sure Dr. Sharp would not have approved. But....well, we did it.
Scott and I wanted to say a few words of gratitude. It was really hard to convey how thankful we were to everybody. It actually would be impossible. i felt like my heart was going to explode, their was so much Love in the room that night.
Wowzers, it was a full house. How did my eye not twitch when I spoke?
Now onto the show. Sam, as in "Sammy's", was in charge of this part and he did a fantastic job. First was Calee. She has a Beautiful voice. Like, she could win The Voice, you should really tryout for that Calee.

Then The brother and sister duo, The Neighbors. Very fun, upbeat and ridiculously good looking.
I'm kinda bummed I didn't get the funny face memo. How did I not know.
Lastly, the very lovely Brooke White. I feel like we became Best friends in 5 minutes. I spent the first 45 minutes of the night telling her my life story, poor thing. Brooke, you were amazing. Thank you SO much. I was very jealous of your yellow vintage dress, BTW.

After the entertainment, we had an auction. the best part was the end, when Brooke offered up a private concert! C'mon, Brooke...too nice, TOO NICE!
P.S. Sally, you'd better invite me to that!!
But one of my most favorite parts of the night was seeing Joel(another talented Gabba friend) and Jennifer walking away with all these little girl dresses and aprons. They don't even have any kids!! I love that they kept on winning them in the raffle. I think Joel was pretty excited about them too.
I don't think you know how much Davy will benefit(no pun intended) from this. Medical bills are an unfortunate part of our lives now and it's so amazing to have those burdens lifted. This Benefit is not something I could have ever imagined happening for us. But it did and I am eternally grateful. There were so many people who went out of there way to help-- friends, family and people that don't even know Davy.
We feel completely blessed.

Thank you

Quarantine

It's been a BUSY past couple o' days. I thought I would be posting about how AWESOME the Team Davy benefit was, but you'll have to wait on that one. I need some time to put that into words. Also, we have a plague in our house and by plague I mean Pneumonia. Yes you read right, Harper has Pneumonia!!
This how it went down.....
Sunday afternoon Harper hunches over in pain and said his tummy hurt, or a skeleton was punching him. He was shaking and breathing quick breaths. I thought this was from pain. He had a low grade fever, no vomiting or diarrhea. Then he was fine, maybe a little less active, but fine. He coughed maybe once or twice, but I would have never have said he was congested at all. I actually thought it was appendicitis. I even called a Doctor for advice.
Monday I had therapy all day with Davy, so my sister, Cathy, watched Harper for me. She said, wow, Harper has really mellowed out. He had no fever or screaming out in pains, so I figured maybe it was gas or something.
Today I went to the school for Ollie's Luau party. I get a call saying, Harper is screaming and shaking. So I get home and Harper is a hot mess. Literally, he had a fever and was shaking and breathing really quickly. So I took him to the Doctors. The x-ray showed that his right lung was full and it was pressing on his side which caused the tummy pain. He had a 102 fever and his oxygen levels were not so great.
SO we did some breathing treatments, Tylenol and then gave him two (very painful)shots of heavy meds in his legs. We have to go back in tomorrow and do it all over again. But it beats going to the hospital, right?
Poor Harper, I have never seen him like this. He is a pretty tough kid. When they gave them the shots, he screamed and asked if it was OK if he could cry for a long time.
Now we are just trying to figure out how we are going to quarantine him from Davy. She can NOT get this. That would not be good.
So prayers......prayers for everyone over here.

a dream came true today

PIGTAILS!!!! I have a little list of things that I am really excited for, in regards to my Lil girl.
1. was sailor dress........check
2. pigtails.........check
I think there is nothing cuter then a girl in pigtails. I actually think Davy got 20% cuter today. It took her all of 10 minutes to pull them out though. But she is messing with the wrong mom. My daughter WILL wear pigtails. Even if I have to redo them every 10 minutes, I will.
I am cursing myself, huh? Davy will start taking them out every minute and it will wear me down until I forgo my pigtail dreams.
Whatever, I still force it on her.

happy anniversary to us!

Seventeen years!!! I have officially known Scott for half of my life. And lets face it, my first 7 years I can't even remember, so they shouldn't even count.
We spent the whole day together. It was SO much fun. It was the best gift we could give, the gift of time.

We went to LA , it's been a long time since I have hung out there. We started off eating at a really good restaurant called, BLD. I got ricotta blueberry pancakes and Sir Scott had a Cuban style sandwich.
Then it was off to LACMA to see the Tim Burton exhibit. Ehh, It was alright.
Haha, just kidding. We Looooooved it. Truly inspiring.

After another meal(we love to eat OK) at Luna Park, we headed off to an even more inspiring art exhibit. A Yo Gabba Gabba art show. It was all Gabba inspired art by cast, crew and artists who have worked on the show. It was really fun to catch up with some peeps. And the art was really good. I loved the felt Gabba dolls that Erin(voice of Toodee, dances in Brobee) made. So cute huh? I wish I could have bought them all.

We ended our night with Chocolate dipped cones from none other then, Mc Dons. It was pretty much a perfect day. Especially cuz Scotty let me squeeze in a quick detour at the grove to shop. Now that's love.
