Wow , what a week. I think I've spent half of the past 7 days at Doctor appointments and the other half holding a pacifier. Since Davy has been sick, we've had to see the Doctors more. We found out she has an Adult strain sinus infection(only Davy). I think she's pretty bummed out about it, hence all the pacifier holding. She has needed a lot more love the past couple of days, poor thing.
Amongst the many Doctor visits we had Davy's first cranio facial team appointment. They will be the people we will be working with to fix up Davy's clefty. I was really excited/nervous for this. Fixing Davy up is gonna be a long hard road and I am not sure what to expect. These appointments last about 4 hours. You basically sit in a room and the various Doc's come in and do there thing. We met with dental, ENT, Genetics, plastic surgeon, speech therapist, audiologist and a social worker. Phew, I'm tired just typing that. The Dentist confirmed her toothy and said it will most likely need to get pulled. He said it could be done during her lip/nose surgery, you know kill 3 birds with one stone. I was really anxious to hear what her plastic surgeon had to say, and it wasn't really what I had hoped for. I know that most clefties need numerous(I've heard upto 13 sometimes) surgeries over their life, but I guess I was kinda hoping Davy would be different. Wrong. Usually the lip gets repaired in one, 2 hour(ish) surgery, with some touch ups down the road. Davy will need 2 surgeries to do what the 1 should. Her cleft lip is large and she doesn't have a lot of lip tissue. So the first surgery will be to bring the cleft closer, then after that heals(6 months later) they will complete the repair in a second surgery. After he said this my brain just switched off. I just kept thinking 2...2 surgeries. Why? Why can't this be easier for her? He really didn't go into crazy details about it either. Or maybe he did but I was to emotional to hear him. Ends up we have to make another appointment to his private office and things will be spelled out more clearly there. Of course his soonest appointment was like 3 weeks away........ whatever. In the meantime I will enjoy her large clefty smile.
Do you see her lil toothy?

The queen is 4

Our little bird is 4 months now. This month went by WAY to fast. Our Davy has almost been at home as long as she was in the NICU. Let's see what has been going on for Davy....

* she is now 12 pounds 15 ounces and 23 1/4 inches. She is in the 40% for both but she is in the 10% for her head. It's hard to tell cuz she has a chubby face. But I can tell when I try to put a hat on her, she looks like mush mouth from Fat Albert.
* She is still fighting off her first cold. But she is definitely on the mend. I'm currently building a bubble to keep her in. Wouldn't that be nice?
* I'm sad to say she hasn't laughed since the last(and first) time she did it. I 've been trying really hard to, I guess she doesn't get my jokes.
* she has tooth #2 growing. Coincidentally out of the same nub that tooth #1 came out of.
* she had formula for the first time and was throwing up all morning from it. I'm talking crazy throw up. I'm trying all that I can do to keep my milk supply up, but my body just won't produce as much as she needs. In fact I'm pumping as I type. Was that TMI? I'm trying to make pumping as fun as possible. I have it set up next to the computer so i can look at blogs or shop. I kinda look forward to pumping now.
* She loves playing pat a cake with Harper and Ollie. Her brother really love to help with her. Some times too much.
You know to be honest she really hasn't done a lot of changing this month. But that's OK, she's only 4 months. I am constantly amazed by this little girl . All she has to do is give you one smile and it makes your day. I know her life is not going to be easy, I just hope she never stops giving her full body smiles.

Happy 4th of July!!

Ha Ha, I know I'm like 2 weeks late on this one. C'mon, I've been a little busy. But we did have a really good 4th of July. It was spent in the small town of Newman California, with a large group of aunts, uncles and cousins. We had a water balloon fight, played German baseball( a Witten classic) and had the most amazing meal(thanks Steve.)
One of the perks of living in a small town is that they have small laws. Like they don't care if you blow things up. We had about a weeks worth of fire works, so needless to say we had a good time. Of course my favorites are the flowers and sparklers. It's way more fun to light your own fireworks, then watching a show, unless your at Disneyland, their show makes me cry every time.

The Witten family, minus my Brother Adams family. You were missed Dude.

I hope you all had a fun holiday. I'm sure you've forgotten all about it by now.

wait......whuuuut!?

Yesterday morning, I was leaving my weekend Target run when I noticed this on my car! I almost laughed MY badonk-a -donk off. My first thoughts were, how long has this been on? Wait a minute, has anyone honked? Not that I have noticed , dang.
This provided me with much needed laughter for the day, I might have lizzed. SO now what? Do I rock this sticker......... or do I pass it along to a deserving friend? C'mon, you know me, I am the giving type, I must share the badonk-a-donk. Be forewarned people of So-cal, you just might be getting a lot honks your way. BWAA-HAAHAAAHAAAHHAA.
Thanks Tyler, you evil genius you.

P.S Davy is kicking her cold's badonk. So, thanks for the prayers.

Not even 4 months yet.

i was trying to hold off the inevitable, but it's here. davy is sick. she caught the cold that harper has. i was hoping she was going to be a little older for her first sickness, but.....nope nopeity nope. she started show signs yesterday. she was acting fussy and getting a little snorty. it was a rough night, partly because i was over analyzing things...was that a weird breath? is she too hot? is she lethargic, wait she should be sleeping now anyways. today she took a looooong nap and then i've just been holding her ever since. i'm trying to think of what you do for a infant with a cold, not much huh? tylenol, humidifier, saline drops? anything I'm forgetting? i'm in touch with her pediatrician and endocrinologist, it's basically davy watch 2010. if you could, give davy a little prayer, she would greatly appreciate it.

Dear Ruth, (a love letter)

Some husbands write their wives beautiful love letters. While others might send a sweet little text. Maybe your husband loves to just tell you to your face how amazing you are. MY husband, he sends me emails, this email to be exact.......

Awesome

She made it!

Have you ever had news that made you happy and sad at the same time? Today Davy got evaluated by Regional center. In the NICU they seemed to think she was on the fence for qualifying. To me that's the worst place to be. Either be a rock star baby or be delayed enough so you can get the help you need, none of this in between stuff. Well today she was not in between. She was "globally" delayed in all areas, except that she was very engaging(obviously). Part of me was relieved, she's gonna get the help she needs. The other part was a little sad....she's delayed. I know in the scheme of Davy's life, this is NOT that big a deal. But I 'm allowed to be a little sad, right? OK there....I'm done being sad. Now I'm just focused on having my little bird build up her muscles. Shoot, maybe even drink a bottle or two. GO TEAM DAVY!
