Some one recently asked if Davy was my favorite child. I have to admit, I LOVE babies. Then add a big clefty grin on a baby girl and I'm a goner. But as soon as I think this my mothers guilt says, nooo, you love them all equal! No favorites, equality for all! Then I got to thinking...what if my kids feel like I have a favorite? I wonder if they think I love Davy more cuz I'm constantly taking care of her? So on the way to soccer practice I asked Ollie...........
Me- Olls, do you think mommy has a favorite kid that she loves more?
Ollie- (with a smile) Yes.
Me- (Crap, he knows, he knows) Really, who?
Ollie- He leans in and whispers........me.
Me- It is you!!! I do love you the most!(phew)
YOU, OLIVER, ARE MY FAVORITE CHILD!! But don't tell anybody, it's our secret.
Ollie sticks his hand out and says, Mom, give me your words. Then he scooped up my words and shoves them into his brain.
Ollie definitely went up a few notches with that stunt. Want to know something funny? Growing up my Dad always told each child that they were his favorite, I totally believed it to.
On side note, Ollie did indeed have a black eye. I'm not gonna mention any names, BUT a certain 2 year old may or may not have hit him in the face with a broom.
There is never a dull moment in the Schultz house.

You do love babies. I remember when you rocked crying Jack to sleep one time. As a new mother, I couldn't have appreciated that more.
My hair looked the same as Ollie's when I was 8. And I am a girl. Sad.
I love this post. I worry about the same thing. I wonder if my 4 year old thinks I love him less now that my 11 month old is so so mobile and he's not as gentle as I would hope and I end up screaming at him like no tomorrow. Heck, I wonder if he thinks I even like him.
My husband thinks he's the favorite out of his family. His mom did a good job at showing an abundance of love.
That just proves what a good Mom you are Ruth. Such a cute story.
And I love the picture of Ollie with a black eye. The picture tells a story. I love the expression on his face. Too cute!
I always tell each of my boys...
"you're my favorite Ty Ty"
"you're my favorite Benny"
And they always tell me
"you're my favorite mommy"
They are in my favorite in their own unique way.
haha his face is so priceless in that pic. i wish i could shove words in my brain.
That poor little face.... and his expression is priceless! (How did you make him do that face?) And yeah, we have (almost) the same kid dynamic of ages. I've got an 11 yr. old, who thinks she's a teenager, the boy, who was born on the same day as Max (and only 1 hr. apart), a 4 yr. old, who thinks she's a princess (sometimes), and a 2 yr. old who likes to swing light sabers at his siblings. No black eyes, as of yet, but I'm expecting that to happen at any given time.... And my husband also tells ALL of them that they are his favorite... even to the point of telling them that one of the other children is his favorite and he gets a BIG eye roll and a 'Yeah, right dad'. Hope your little one's are enjoying school, and that you are too!
We tell each of our four children that they're our favorite too. They're now 11 and being told 'that's why you're my favorite' keeps them competing for the honor. lol
I have an Oliver, too - mine is special needs. So glad I found your blog - your family is lovely. Cheers to you and yours!
My dad may not have actually said it out loud, but all 5 of us siblings feel like we're his favorite ... and that is what I am trying to make my own feel too!
So you keep going with this "plan" 'cause it is a GOOD ONE!
i loved this..
and the fight...
and the scooping up your words....
cool kids.
That is precious :)
My mummy recently died. My brothers and sisters were sharing that she had each told them that they were her favourite in her last conversations with them.
Its true, we were ALL her favourites :)
This made my heart melt! What a special story...now one of my favorites:) Thank you for sharing your life with us. I feel blessed to have found your blog.
