1 days after surgery

2 days after surgery

3 days after

4days after surgery......we got a couple of smiles today

5 days after surgery

Stitches are off! It couldn't have went smoother. With Davy's Adrenal issues, being put under anesthesia is a little more complicating. They have to give a "stress dose"of steriods at least a half an hour before, that is why they try to get that IV in before. They have to give her another one 6 hours later. Without it she would not survive. Then her nostrils were pretty impacted with , let's just say"stuff", that needed to be flushed out and the anesthesia Doc thought that it would be best to intubate her so she wouldn't choke on it. So the suture removal becomes an all day event. But we lucked out. Dr. J told our Endocrine and "Ani"Doc that he could to it fairly fast and it would not require intubation or her stress dose. Well she still requires a stress dose no matter what, but not as large of a dose, so not through an IV. Am I making any sense to you? Basically what could have been an ordeal of 6 hours was cut into 3.....booya. Dr.J saw how fussy Davy was being and said it indeed was not normal. He's pretty sure she has some sort of infection, so she is on another round of antibiotics and he gave us more codeine. She also will be wearing tape for the next week to help her not disturb her lip. SO hopefully things we be on the up and up. In the meantime we will be walking and retrying to get these stupid no-no arm bands to work. I think I need to MacGyver them on her some how. Ducktape......sock....safety pin?

I vote for DUCT TAPE! That stuff works great on children, especially when you try put them on the wall! J/K She doesn't look like a very happy camper, but I'm sure that soon, you'll get a TON of smiles from that little face. Just keep it up, you are doing a great job! And we know she loves you, even with the pouty face! lol

I"m glad the surgery went as well as it did. You and Scott are a great team. Thanks for the milk bags I was about to go buy new ones today so you saved me the trip to the store with four kids. :) The best part about pumping is it makes me think of Davy and say a little prayer for her (and You and Scott) twice everyday.

Yay for not having to be "under" as long! Glad they were able to see that there was something else going on with her, and help fix it before it got out of control! Praying for a speedy recovery for your darling.

A pair of socks long enough to reach her shoulders and then her clothing on top of the socks should help her keep the "no no arm bands" on. She might be a little warm ...

Oh those pics make ME smile. She's such a beautiful baby. I love her eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows.

And Dr. J.....did an awesome job.

I hope she gets to feeling better soon....so you and hubby can get some rest.

I've never seen any surgeries of a corrected clefty, so I didn't know what to expect... It is absolutely amazing what they have done. She is such a little fighter and beautiful as always. Glad to see she's doing well.

I am just a lurker, but I had to comment:

She is SO beautiful! (before & after) I thought of you and prayed for you the day of the surgery and I am so happy to see everything turning out so well.

Oh Wow! When I got to the picture of her smiling I totally melted, SO SO sweet! I hope she starts feeling better really quickly--you're amazing!

I would try the duct tape! If she can get out of that, well then, she may have a career as an escape artist.

I got them!! The arm restraints should be here Thursday via FedEx, and hopefully those work better for you. In the meantime...Duct tape for sure:) Keep up the good work with the no-no's, just remember, it's SO much better than a stitch opening.

so glad the stitch removal went better than anticipated!

So glad it went well!

And thanks for explaining about the IV - not that it's really my business. I just felt so bad for her about the IV troubles.

Here's to more smiley days ahead!

I was just sent the link to your blog. I too have a daughter that was born with a cleft lip/palate. She is now 9 years old facing her next surgery. She hasn't had one since she was 1 when they did the palate. Her lip was done when she was 3 months old. I wish I had had a digital camera back in those days when she had her big gap grin. I would have taken so many more.

I am glad the surgery went well. The recovery is not fun. My little girl hated those arm restraints. It brought back so many memories to see your pictures. I remember they had to connect them together with a long shoe lace so she couldn't slip them off.

I hope everything continues to go well.

Perhaps sew some socks onto your least favorite onesie? They should be big enough to fit over the arm bands and keep them from "slipping" off? Er....maybe?

Wow, she is absolutely gorgeous! So sorry to hear about the infection which means more fussiness. Praying for swift recovery and sleep for you.

My three year old just saw Davy's picture and said, "Mama, that is one precious baby."

It is amazing how quickly children heal! Davy continues to knock my socks off with each and every post (and you too of course, such grace under pressure).

Simply beautiful.

I think Davy looks wonderful! I was so shocked by the face post-surgery. It was like a puzzle-piece was missing, and now it is complete! It's not a different face, same face, just complete.

Praying she heals up quick!

I hate to hear that she's having such a tough time with the recovery - I know watching your baby in pain is *torture* - but it looks like she's healing well. What a sweet little post-clefty smile!!

She's a doll, and you are a Fab Momma! Hang in there!

I hope her healing process is speedy quick! You are a great Mom, and oh so brave. You really are, THE MOM. No joke. I love that my sister introduced me to your blog. I'm an offical stalker now.

Don't worry, I'm not a creeper. :D

You are awesome! Happy thoughts and prayers your way!

Codeine can make you constipated. Just making sure her fussiness isn't related to that. Sorry it's been so hard for all of you!

So sweet; I'm glad she's doing well. I'm just someone who's randomly come across this after click-overs from other artists' blogs and such, and it's been so compelling going back in time and reading the old posts and following her progress. Congrats on such a resilient little girl!
