How does your garden grow?

My garden grows in a raised box. I love our box garden. It really is the best way to garden. And if you ever make one, I highly recommend to raise it. No hurt back, no kids/rodents/dogs messing with your garden.
On earth day we replanted our Garden of Eden. It is always so much fun for the family to pick what they want to plant in their plot O' land. This year we have tomatoes, snap peas, corn, squash, carrots, watermelon. strawberries, lettuce, peanuts(?), cucumbers and pretty much every herb out there.
Instead of a Lemonade stand , Ollie had an herb stand. He was selling some leaves of fresh herbs for a quarter. I think he made $5. We have since been giving away bags to everyone we know.
I have officially become the neighborhood herb supplier. Ha ha funny. But if you live near me, please stop by, I'll hook you up, furreal yo.
Harper was in heaven playing with the soil. probably because he was in his undies. But I guess that is a step up from being nakie, right?
Davy was busying her self with chewing on her harness. Does anyone know of a good way to clean throw up off these things?

The boys have taken great pride in watering our garden, that includes Scott. He always walks back to the garden first thing after work, just for a quick hello. Then he comes inside and greets the Fam.
This was our first sprig of green. Ollie screamed like it was Christmas morning.

I know I know, how funny is it that Harper is eating a caramel apple lollipop whilst gardening. Only the Schultz family can successfully mix junk with organic veggies.

This was taken today. Ain't it purty?
It is now harvest time. Tonight we had a garden salad for two. So yummy.
In case your wondering our peanuts have not done a n y t h i n g. It was worth a shot though.
I think Scott had dreams of fresh peanuts for his trail mix.

I set the stroller in the driveway, and spray it down with the hose. Then put a tiny dot of laundry detergent on a scrub bush and scrub away. I scrub every inch of it, then I spray it until the water runs clear, then let it dry in the sun. Strollers should really have removable straps like car seats do.

I've got nothing on the stroller..but I am super jealous of your raised garden...Michigan is a bipolar climate! Can't grow much becaus it could be 70 and sunny then 30 and snowing in the same day!

I love your garden.
This is how I clean strollers straps and car seats. I make a paste of baking soda and water, with a rag rub it on real good, rinse with some vinegar and water, and air dry. The soda and vinegar get the smell out.

We have a raised garden too! Ours is definitely not that pretty nor green (remember we're in Phoenix). but Brett made ours out of a horse's water trough. And our peppers are taking off! We just planed squash and pumpkins. I should post mine too…maybe when it gets a little fuller, like yours. :-)

Wow. I'm seriously so jealous. I actually might start doing this at my house. Did you follow square foot gardening rules and timing? When do you plant? You said April, right? My concern has always been soil. I can't ever get a good mix. Do you buy your own compost? Cuz I can't imagine you make your own like they say in the book. :) Email me. Hope the girls have fun there! I know they will! Thanks for sending Max and Ollie.

lol, I do the same as Our Little Family! I also do this with the disgusting high chair. Baby things get so nasty!

Great job on the garden...we aimed to do one this year but time got a way on us. Next year for sure!

I'm telling you....square foot gardening is the only way to go. Your garden is gorgeous this year. Oh...and the green onion, and basil were DELISH. Thanks again!!! One more thing.....I love that the entire family is involved!!!!

The garden is glorious! rs in Utah is just getting going so I am most jealous of your lovely salad!

My baby turned 16 last week so I am out of the loop on car seat and stroller straps. It seems I used to do a version of what everyone else has suggested. Watch out all of you young mommies...one of these days you will be my age and suddenly all of your baby paraphernalia will be deemed hazardous and unsafe. Everything you are so carefully doing to keep your little ones safe will be all wrong and make you feel like a really bad Mommy! But guess what? My 5 kids made it through just fine! So there!

I agree! A garden box is a great way to contain the (sometimes) mess and keep animals out. This is our second year with our garden box, made by hand (so easy). Glad to see you're proud of yours too!

May I ask where you got your raised garden box? I saw a really cool one at Sam's a few years ago but we did not have a house then.

Ruth this is amazing! I can't wait to have my own raised garden when I have the space! I think I would just fill it up with asparagus and artichokes! Those are my favorite. Now I know where to go when I need herbs, good thing for me you're only a short walk away!

I love gardening. Now that I have my daughter we go out every morning to water it an pick strawberries and zucchini (for now.)

Nora is a huge fan of chewing on anything that is "strappy" material. To clean the ones that are attached, I use a cup of water and a small amount of baby soap and scrub it with a toothbrush. Then I rinse it by scrubbing with just water. I figure it hasn't hurt her since she drinks the soapy water in the tub, it should be OK to use to scrub the straps clean.

So jealous! I can barely keep up on the weeding of my yard. My back is hurting as we speak from 2 hours of weeding one patch! UGh! Way to go!

Yummy Garden! We haven't put ours in yet, but we have started composting. I'm hoping I can get the plot started by this winter so it will be ready for planting in the spring... are you using the square foot method? I think that's what it is called.

blogstalker here...power washer...every summer when it gets hot enough to dry things in hours - i drag all strollers/car seats/baby paraphenalia out onto the driveway and powerwash the crud out of it. if it's stubborn - a little krudkutter does the trick. they look like new. especially the straps - which you have to hold out so there's lots of tension and be careful not the strip the top layer of skin off your finger.

PLEASE! Can you please send me the details of how you built (or where you bought) your elevated garden beds? I can't find any online, and, I love the guy, but my husband isn't so....handy when it comes to creating things without a plan. Is it possible you could send me the plans, or whatever might help us? I'm so so excited about this! I thought I had nowhere to put a garden, but desperately want one! So for sure, next year (so long as we can build it!) Thanks so much in advance!!
